School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP)
Housed at the Pennsylvania State University, the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) consists of the engineering design program, the engineering entrepreneurship minor, engineering leadership development minor, engineering technology and commonwealth engineering, first-year engagement, and humanitarian engineering and social entrepreneurship programs.
Engineering Design Program:
The SEDTAPP Engineering Design Program (EDP) is based on the concept of integrated engineering design: the integration of the ideas, disciplines, people, and resources within engineering and beyond that are necessary to achieve optimal design solutions for products, systems, processes, and services. Strengths of the EDP include design methods, systems design, design for human variability, design cognition (decision making), global design with worldwide partners, innovative design, community engagement, and client-based design project experiences. Faculty in the Engineering Design Program conduct collaborative research in many of these areas and offer courses from the first year to the graduate level
Engineering Entrepreneurship Minor:
The 18-credit Engineering Entrepreneurship (E-SHIP) minor combines technology and business to create entrepreneurs and innovators. E-SHIP shows students of any major how to use their unique skills to become innovators in today's global business climate.
The E-SHIP minor was founded thanks to a grant from the GE Learning Excellence Fund and the Penn State Leonard Center. The minor is now partially funded through the Gaelen Endowment for Engineering Entrepreneurship and Leadership, the E. V. Bishoff Engineering Entrepreneur in Residence, the Keen Endowment for Engineering Entrepreneurship, and the Eberhardt Endowment for Entrepreneurship in Engineering.
Engineering Leadership Development Minor
The Penn State Engineering Leadership Development Minor (ELDM) is a pioneering globally recognized program.

Engineering Technology and Commonwealth Engineering
Engineering Technology and Commonwealth Engineering has three specific focuses:
Technology - Students majoring in engineering technology will learn engineering starting at the first-year with strong emphasis on practical industry applications and with mathematics and sciences integrated through out the four-years.
Job Skills - Faculty members work closely with local and regional employers to give students the real-world knowledge and skills to perform effectively in a rapidly changing and highly technical workplace.
Variety - With nine associate and five baccalaureate degrees, the engineering technology program at Penn State is among the largest in the nation.
First-year Engagement
Engineering First-Year Seminars are designed to engage students in learning and facilitate the transition to college life.
First-Year Engineering Seminars are small, interactive classes limited to 25 students. They meet once or twice a week for lab projects, demonstrations, tours, or discussions about engineering. Seminars are designed:
- To introduce students to university study
- To introduce students to Penn State as an academic community, including fields of study and areas of interest available to students.
- To acquaint students with the learning tools and resources available at Penn State.
- To provide an opportunity for students to develop relationships with full-time faculty and other students in an academic area of interest to them
- To introduce students to their responsibilities as part of the University community.
Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship Programs
The basic philosophy of HESE is the convergence of concepts, disciplines, cultures and countries towards a freer, fairer, friendlier and more sustainable world.
